The Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) is a pioneer in the use of litigation and advocacy to protect, defend, and enhance public health. Established in 1979, our initial focus was on protecting nonsmokers from tobacco smoke exposure, but we have expanded our efforts to include combating gun violence, addressing predatory gambling, and promoting healthier public policies related to obesity and injury reduction.
