Mission

For the first time since 2019, as a result of the pandemic in 2020 (cancellation of finals) and 2021 (online digital only), jtva returned to an in-person live event for its 9th annual vocal competition on july 16-17, 2022. from 332 applicants from around the world, 14 finalists were chosen in two tiers and over $52,000 in prize money was awarded. in november 2022, jtva awarded its 2nd annual elizabeth greenfield award. this $5,000 grant, named in honor of a trailblazing 19th century black american singer, recognizes an outstanding present-day black singer by providing meaningful financial assistance to further their career. 7 finalists were chosen from 83 applicants and the award was announced on november 6.
