Since its establishment in 1976, the Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department has been dedicated to ensuring the safety of the community by responding to wildland and structure fires and medical emergencies. Covering 800 square miles, the department is staffed by 17 volunteers from Shell, Wyoming, and also offers assistance to surrounding communities such as Greybull, Basin, and Hyattville. The department operates solely on donations and grants, relying on community support to maintain its services.
