Mission
The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) plays a critical role in managing fishery resources in the Northeast United States. Established by federal legislation in 1976, the Council is responsible for developing regulations that promote sustainable fishing practices and support the health of marine ecosystems. By facilitating public participation and collaboration among stakeholders, NEFMC aims to ensure the optimal use of seafood resources while maintaining the ecological integrity of the marine environment.
