The tahoe cross country ski education association's (tccsea) mission is to promote the sport of cross country skiing through educational activities for children and adults in the north lake tahoe/truckee region of northern california/northern nevada. through the partnership with the tahoe city public utility district, tccsea provides several educational programs to its community members. tccsea provides school children in the community with a unique opportunity to not only learn and participate in a sport that will provide lifelong enjoyment and health benefits but also can provide motivated individuals with a foundation for world class competitive training. many young athletes from the area move on to competition at the national and international level in nordic skiing. tccsea supports its local nordic ski team from north tahoe middle and high schools by providing free trail access, coaching support and ski equipment.

The tahoe nordic search and rescue team (tnsar) ... was conceived in 1976 as a response to the death of a boy lost off the back side of northstar-at-tahoe ski area during a blizzard. there was, at the time, no organized backcountry team to help search for the boy. desperate phone calls to some local nordic skiers produced a search party that eventually located the youth, but only after it was too late. this group of skiers, along with the boy's father (who today still remains a tnsar member), realized there was an important void to be filled. thus, the tahoe nordic search & rescue team was born. based in the north lake tahoe/truckee area, the team has matured considerably after these many years but the goals remain the same: conducting fast, safe rescues and educating the public on winter safety. in february 2006 the california governor's office of emergency services completed the alpine team guidelines for search and rescue mutual aid, a document that will help to establish standards

The nlths preserves, presents and interprets the history of north lake tahoe both in a regional context and in the larger context of the american west. we do this in a manner that is engaging, educational and culturally sensitive through innovative programming and exhibits at the gatekeeper's and watson cabin museums of the nlths. the gatekeeper's museum and watson cabin place emphasis on the cultural and geographical histories that influenced the development of north lake tahoe. the marion steinbach indian basket museum places emphasis on the historical and contemporary basketry traditions of western north america, and seeks to promote cultural awareness through programming in collaboration and consultation with native american weavers and scholars.
