Provide fire protection district residents and property owners with the best possible cost effective fire prevention, education and fire suppression services for structure and wild lands through the efforts of volunteer firefighters. in addition, act as first responder for wild land fires in privately held areas of ouray county, which are not within district's boundaries and support all other districts when there are mutual aid agreements.

The george gardner scholarship fund (ggsf) provides financial assistance to ouray county, colorado youth who wish to pursue outdoor or experiential educational opportunities for personal and interpresonal growth.
