(edr) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization organized in massachusetts in 2013 whose mission is to advance community development, social inclusion and democratic ideals through early adolescent and youth education. in particular, the organization has a tradition of serving disadvantaged youth in the united states and abroad, including north korean refugees, and has run a program called step up since 2016 to help low-income immigrant students in the greater boston area improve their academic propsects and mitigate educational opportunity inequality. for many immigrant students and first-generation american students whose parent are immigrants, a combination of linguistic, cultural, economic and technological barriers, as well as anger issues, violence, low self-esteem and struggles with life at home, have jeopardized their motivation for studying and their academic persistence and success.
