Primary activities are associated with fire fighting, rescue work and ems services for the residents of the apalachin fire district. ems calls average 2-3/day, fire/rescue calls 80-100/year. **note:** a change in 2022 in new york state general municipal law (gml 209-b(4)) makes it so fire departments are now allowed to bill for ambulance and emergency services provided effective 07/2022. our fire department started to bill commercial insurance carriers and medicare/medicaid for cost recovery of services provided and equipment used in 11/2022 retroactive to pcrs for service submitted in 09/2022. paid staff costs and equipment cost recovery from these insurance proceeds will be then used to offset expenses incurred by the apalachin fire district to the benefit of the municipality's taxpayers.
